“The location for the painting is about a mile east along the shore of Georgian Bay from the Killarney Lighthouse. This part of the shore gets very little foot traffic so all the lichen on the rocks are preserved almost like a big quilt. I hiked in several times at sunrise while I was working on this one to absorb as much of the location as I could. After several rains, the terracing water pools were full around the fire pit. Fire is always a challenge to paint which is one of the reasons I like it as a subject and in this setting I felt it worked well with the background. Georgian Bay has such a timelessness about it and I can see why it inspires.”
