About the sculpture:
Casual bonds between five at the workplace grew into a common desire for artistic expression, and soon two others were welcomed into the fold. Inspiration flowed from individuals named Thomson and Carr, but also from a Canadian landscape deemed unworthy of an artist’s brush by some. Algonquin Park, Georgian Bay, Algoma, Haliburton, and Lake Superior drew seven young men to their ever-changing forests, rocky shores, and expansive skies. These pioneers of the Canadian art scene portrayed this fresh, new, country in bold and vibrant strokes of colour and contrasting perspectives like no others before them. To this day, when artists place themselves in their idols footsteps, the aura and legacy of these men, and those who inspired them, can always be felt in The Spirit of the Group of Seven.
