Gyrfalcon Walnut Paddle

$1,800.00

This ‘beavertail’ shaped paddle is hand carved from a solid plank of Ontario grown black walnut. It is
finished with linseed oil and decorated with the image of a white phase gyrfalcon.

The bird has been textured using fine stoning and burning techniques and finished with acrylic paint.
A gyrfalcon primary wing feather has been carved and painted on the handle of the paddle.

The black walnut display base features an additional primary flight feather from the bird. This feather
is carved from tupelo and finished with acrylic paint.

This carving is inspired by my great love for back-country canoeing and the rich tradition of paddling
in Algonquin Provincial Park.

This paddle carving was judged Best in Show at the 2024 Wood Art Competition at the
Canadian National Wildfowl Carving Championship in Waterloo, Ontario. It also won the Open
Bench Division at the 2025 Ward World Wildfowl Carving Competition in Ocean City,
Maryland.

While this paddle is a fully functional, I recommend that it not be used on your canoe tripping
adventures but remain as a presentation piece in your home or business.
