Artist Biography

Peter Schulz is a contemporary plein air artist, whose passions for life, art and travel are represented in his oil sketches and paintings. completed on site, Peter combines composition, contrast and colour to re create the mood and effects reflected by his subjects.
Self-taught, Peter does most of his learning from visits to galleries, books and the input of other artists in painting groups. But the best way to learn, says Peter, is to go on location and paint not only what you see but mostly what you feel.
Most of his inspiration is found from nature and the outdoors, the richness of the landscape colours, the dramatic sky scenes that result from fast changing weather patterns, the moonlight reflecting on snow and birch trees at night creating that luminescent glow.
Peter also loves the way in which the scent of autumn leaves, the loud call of the loons in the autumnal early morning mist, the crisp, coldness of a winter night come back to life as he views his completed paintings.
Over the years, Peter has been steadily establishing himself in private collections in North America, Europe, Asia and Australia.
