The Green Light of Evening
The colours of night are normally either interpreted in a painting by the use of green light or blue light. For this painting I chose green lighting. I feel it captured that time of night when you can see, but nothing is clear. Everything is just slightly out of focus. Even the moon isn’t quite clear. I did a second painting, with blue lighting, the very same size with a very similar composition in order to see which one I felt captured the feeling I wanted. As it turns out, I like them both
equally. The scene is an early evening on a lake, a canoeist making his or her way back to camp, guided by the light of a campfire. A scene I have experienced many times over the years.
