The Blue Light of Evening
The colours of night are normally either interpreted in a painting by the use of green light or blue light. For this painting I chose blue lighting. It gives a slightly cooler feeling to the night sky and the overall effect of the painting. I did a second painting, with green lighting, the very same size with a very similar composition in order to see which one I felt captured the feeling I wanted. As it turns out, I like them both equally. The scene is an early evening on a lake, a canoeist making his or her way back to camp, guided by the light of a campfire. A scene I have experienced many times over the years.
