Resting After a Fresh Snow
Barred owls are one of my favourite owls. I love their call “Who cooks, who cooks for you whooo”. A sound so often heard in the forests of Algonquin Park. Their dark eyes intrigue me as well. They aren’t the usual bright yellow-orange eyes of so many owls. For this painting, I wanted a quiet moment in an owl’s day. A scene that was quiet and peaceful. For me, a snow laden tree with subdued lighting expressed that feeling. It just felt right. The vertical composition allowed me to emphasize the heavy way snow lays and also gave a sense of height for the owl.
